Ski Camp 2016

Jakob,  Blair, Charlotte, Jade and Ben — by Leestream School

The senior school headed to Cardrona for two days skiing.

On the 31st of August Jade, Ben, Charlotte, Blair, Miss Allan and I met at school and loaded the cars up for camp. We were very excited. As we hopped into our cars after saying our goodbyes Miss Allan put the last piece of gear in her car and we were off!

When we arrived at Naseby we did not go straight to the curling rink we went to the park and had morning tea then played for a wee bit.

We drove to the indoor curling rink and put lots of jackets and warm clothes on, but when we got inside it actually was not that cold.

We got told to go up stairs because there is a video on the tv waiting for us. After we went upstairs and watched a five minute video about curling we had learnt all the rules and were really excited.

So we got into it, we put on our grippers and hopped on the ice. We learnt how to slide and turn. We had few games, girls vs boys, once we got the hang of it and we tied with two games each.

We hopped in the cars and drove to Wanaka. Blair took us to the park by the lake while Miss Allan went and got groceries. Blair said “Do not get your clothes wet!” BUT Jakob slipped on a rock and got his feet wet.

The next day we drove to the ski field and got our gear. As we split into our lessons we realized we were in different groups.

We had a bit of trouble starting off but we got the hang of it by the end of the first day.

On day two we had another lesson in the morning and free time in the afternoon. During free time Ben wanted to show how high he could jump. Ben said “I’m just going to hoon it down!”


Jade said "I’m not, I’m going to do the turns the instructor said.” Ben whizzed past a snowboarder that had just fallen down. All of a sudden Ben hit some ice and went flying down the mountain his ski was about three metres above him.

Jade went flying past and couldn’t stop. When she finally stopped the snowboarder that had just crashed, came down and got Ben's skis for him and asked if he was all right, Ben just groaned.

After about three minutes Ben got up and rode down the hill slowly in pain and missed his jump.

We all went to give our gear back, went and picked up our bags and drove to Alexandra for tea. When we finished our tea we went and played in the playground for a little bit.

We got dropped off at our homes and came back to school on Monday. We had a really good time on camp we would like to go skiing again.
