Mondrian Maths

image

Every second Thursday we have a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) challenge during our maths session.

Today we explored the artist Piet Mondrian and his distinctive art compositions. Using his mathematical equation, we practised creating grids that had different sized quadrilaterals  - none could be the same! The best artworks had the smallest total of our Mondrian equation (biggest number - smallest number). We painted our biggest grid using Mondrian's preferred colours of white, black, red, blue and yellow. Next week we will use our Mondrian artworks to further our learning about fractions. What do you think of our artworks?
